European Growth and Relocation to Utrecht

As part of its continued expansion in Europe, Backroads relocated its European headquarters from Southern France to Utrecht in 2024. The move was driven by the need to access a broader pool of multilingual professionals who could support the company’s extensive partnerships with hotels, tour operators, and local service providers across the continent.

Utrecht offered an ideal setting, with its central location, international business climate, and highly skilled, multilingual workforce. The region also provides strong connectivity and access to supportive institutions such as the Utrecht International Centre, making it a natural fit for internationally oriented companies like Backroads.

Support from ROM Utrecht Region

ROM Utrecht Region played a facilitating role in helping Backroads establish its new European base. This included assistance in exploring potential office locations, connecting with relevant partners and municipal services, and supporting the integration of the company and its employees into the local business ecosystem.

Looking Ahead

Backroads officially opened its Utrecht office in the fall of 2024. The new location positions the company to strengthen its European operations and support sustained regional growth. Over the next three years, Backroads plans to expand its Utrecht-based team to approximately 25 employees, reinforcing its commitment to high-quality, sustainable travel experiences across Europe.
